State Museum

The State Museum faced the occupied suburb of Grbavica and was subject to enemy fire. Sporting a botanical garden, a water fountain, and precious exhibits, the oldest cultural and scientific institution in Bosnia was hit by 420 shells during the siege. Fortunately, even though one wing burned down, very few of the precious artifacts were damaged.

The museum is currently open on Tuesdays to Thursdays from 10am-2pm and admission is 5 DM ($3 US). However, spend a little extra to get an expert tour guide, who will explain everything to you. Otherwise, you'll have to try and make sense of the Bosnian exhibit labels.
