The campus of Kosevo hospital stretches across a hillside east of the Zetra sports hall. Because it was close to the front line, the hospital became a very dangerous place during the siege. Bosnian Serb forces tended to do their heaviest shelling when the hospital typically received the most visitors, around noon. Despite the constant barrage of enemy fire, hundreds of Sarajevans streamed through the hospital's doors, where surgeons had to operate without electricity, water, medicines, or adequate supplies.
Following the end of the war, a new wing was constructed (left), which sits next to the old battle-scarred one (right).
