Looking east down the western road into Sarajevo, Bulevar Mese Selimovica, was better known as Sniper Alley. It was given this name due to the ease by which snipers in the surrounding hills and occupied neighborhoods to the South could pick off pedestrians and vehicles along this road. In order to avoid getting hit, you had to dodge behind the barriers that were constructed from the debris of wrecked cars and trams, or drive down the thoroughfare at outrageous speeds.
